On October 14, on the Christian holiday of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God, the Defenders of Ukraine Day is also celebrated.<\/p>\n

This day was chosen for the holiday not by chance, because earlier October 14 was also considered the Day of the Cossacks in Ukraine. This year, due to the Russian invasion, the Day of Defenders of Ukraine has a special significance. So congratulations will help to thank the military for their heroism and fight against the Russian invasion.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which appeared during the Second World War as an armed force against the Hitlerite and Bolshevik occupation, also chose the holiday of the Protection as the Day of Arms, entrusting itself to the protection of the Holy Mother of God. Thus, the Intercession is celebrated in our country not only as a folk-religious, but also as a national holiday.<\/p>\n

On the fourteenth of October, according to the new style, there is a holiday of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, or, as they usually say, "Intercession" or "Holy Intercession". There was a church of the Holy Intercession in Zaporizhzhia, and the Cossacks of Zaporozhye considered the Holy Intercession their patron.<\/p>\n
