At the beginning of March 2015, painstaking work on the preparation of the international project "Obrasu" (which translates from Portuguese as "Embrace") began.
The initiators of the project were the "Archangel Svitla" Charitable Organization, the "Ukrainian House" Association in Portugal. Thanks to the help and cooperation of the "Father's House" organization, on June 26, 2015, 14 orphans, children deprived of parental care, children from the ATO zone and children whose parents were killed in the ATO, aged 8 to 13, flew to Portugal for rest and recovery as part of implementation of the "Hugs" project.
The children's vacation held in the city of Lisbon at the college of "Saint John de Brito" gained great resonance. This event was covered in the international newspaper "Slovo", the circulation of which is distributed in three countries: Portugal, Italy and Spain. The acting Ambassador of Ukraine to Portugal, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the International Charitable Foundation "Archangel of Light", a representative of the Charitable Foundation "Father's House", the Chairman of the Association "Ukrainian House in Portugal", the organizers of the "Obrasu" project joined the organization of the children's camp. from the Portuguese language "Hugs"), Director of the College of San Joa de Brito in Portugal. The camp program included classes in football, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, big tennis, roller skating and bicycle riding, chess lessons, proper nutrition, music and theater arts. For children from 11 years of age, trips to the Atlantic Ocean were organized for surfing and kayaking lessons. For younger children - trips to "Kidzania" ("City of Professions"), where children could try themselves in various professions.
Each child from the Ukrainian group was cared for by Portuguese families whose children were also in this camp, so Ukrainian children learned to communicate in Portuguese, and Portuguese children learned to communicate in Ukrainian. In addition, there were Ukrainian volunteers who had been living in Portugal for more than one year in the camp with Ukrainian children. Over the weekend, the kids had great tours of Lisbon and a beach holiday.
