Since June 20, 2018, an indefinite peaceful protest has been held on Poshtova Square #Museum on Poshtova Excavations of 2014-2016 on the territory of Poshtova Square revealed a building site of the medieval city with an area of over 3000 square meters - a local monument "The site of the coastal city quarter of medieval Kyiv" of the 11th-19th centuries, state protection no. No. 972-Kv. Scientists managed to outline the coastal boundaries of Kyiv, trace numerous traces of the reconstruction of urban communications (streets, alleys) and fortifications, some coastal artificial structures of the late Middle Ages - XVII-XVIII centuries, and buildings of the times of Kievan Rus.
It was here that scientists discovered scientific evidence of the chronicle events of the period of the Baptism of Rus-Ukraine in the facts of the formation of the coastal territory. No less valuable is the collection of individual finds, which includes thousands of items. Among them, in particular, are ten seals marked with princely symbols, which are evidence of the special status of the territory under study in the system of economic and political life of our capital in ancient times of Kyivan Rus.
However, since 2017, the further preservation of the monument has been under threat, and the position of the Kyiv city authorities has changed from the decision to create a museum on the site of the monument's discovery in 2015 to a position of supporting the prerogatives of the investor, who has been planning to build a shopping and entertainment center on the site since 2014.
Since the beginning of 2017, there has been empty talk, and the research of the monument has been stopped at the level of the XI-XII centuries, as they say, halfway, because there is still more than 4 meters of our history that has not yet been discovered.
Meanwhile, on June 21, 2018, the Kyiv City Council adopted a decision convenient for the developer "On organizational and legal measures to preserve the archaeological monument of local importance" The Site of the Coastal City Quarter of Medieval Kyiv (XIX-XIX centuries) on Poshtova Square in Kyiv"), which does not even contain the words "monument" and "museum" among the beautiful and pretentious, but empty phrases.
During the month of protest, the initiative group prepared a draft resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which, with the active support of the deputy corps, was approved on July 5, 2018.
It was we who, on a voluntary basis, together with archaeologists, developed the accounting documentation for the national monument and initiated the review and approval of all documents according to the procedure that began on July 17, 2018.
The initiative group of the campaign is also consulting on the possibility of conserving the monument by domestic specialists to create a modern National Museum. We are also confident that this is possible. We also understand the procedure for creating museum institutions. We know and understand the process of allocating the territory of the monument between the transport interchange by law and transferring it to the Museum.
All our initiatives are aimed at ensuring the unconditional national (and later international) status of this monument and creating a modern National Museum.
